It all started with Mommy. She sent a friend a link to Ann Voskamp’s visual journal idea. I had heard about it before but wasn’t extremely interested at the time. Then Mrs. K. made one, and then Kate made one. Once I saw one in person I wanted one too, so did Susannah. We both wanted them badly and quick! We had to wait on the quick part though, because we weren’t going to be near a Hobby Lobby (where we wanted to get our journals) until the next week! So all week long we kept telling each other, "You know what? I CAN’T WAIT UNTIL WEDNESDAY!" (which was the day we were going to be near a Hobby Lobby .) Mommy had us get some for the younger girls and the boys, too, while we were there.
Then, last Monday after lunch, I took out a stack of magazines and started cutting out pictures….

and cutting
and cutting
…..and cutting!
Pretty soon Anna, Bekah, Charissa, Noah, and later Susannah and Mommy were all cutting out, too! Do you know how addicting it can be?! I cut out pictures ALL AFTERNOON! I used to do that when I was a little girl…Leah and I would fight over who had the prettiest pictures and we each had a little collection of pictures that we kept just to look at, but occasionally we’d trade each other, or we might actually glue it down if it was on something we thought was good enough for our pictures : ) I still have some of those pictures somewhere, but I have not been that excited about cutting pictures out of old magazines for a very long time!
But that changed on Monday…now I have a reason to cut out pictures, and we were still trading and swapping pictures, only the difference now is that we want to make sure the pictures are good enough for our journals, instead of the other way around, like it used to be!
The idea is to take a notebook (we girls got this sketchbook from Hobby Lobby) and you can paste pictures from old magazines into it, and journal, write lists, to-do’s, Scripture verses that you like, cute things your little siblings said, etc. etc. etc.! I already like to keep lists, but they are not always very neat and pretty looking! Writing them in my journal has helped change that 🙂 And when Mommy wants us to look up a vocabulary word, writing it into my journal is SO MUCH more fun than on a plain piece of lined paper!

The table just kept getting messier and messier…by the time we were done the whole table was practically covered in magazines and scraps! And the floor was littered with more scraps that had fallen off the table : )
Noah was having a lot of fun getting to cut things out…he especially liked the tractors 🙂
See what I mean about a mess?! It cleaned up real quick though, because some of us were still cutting out pictures when it was time for supper, and we had to clear off the table in order to eat.
This was Charissa’s…she really liked any pictures of money, and we were instructed to let her know if we found any 🙂

We got this idea from Kate’s family…they put all the pictures they want to use later into a baggie 🙂
I like to keep two big lists all year long of what books I’ve read, and what things I’ve sewn, so I made a place for those two in the front of my journal : )

I really like this picture : ) As it says below the picture, I think it would be fun to stand on Budget Inn’s balcony and see all those cows going by!
