Cassia is graduating this year, so we’ve been working on getting her senior pictures done.  Or maybe we should say that we’ve been playing while doing her senior pictures!  A friend from church was so kind to let us borrow her nice camera, so this past Sunday five of us girls loaded up in the van with our camera and our friend’s camera.   We spent about two hours out on the tracks and took 814 pictures. It was SO much fun!

Anna was the ‘main’ photographer…we all took turns, but photography is her ‘thing’.  She did a really good job, too!

We also didn’t only take pictures of Cassia…we all took turns either posing for pictures, or getting our picture taken without posing.  The scary thing about that nice camera is you can take a quick succession of pictures with little warning 😀   It doesn’t take so long to focus!

It was fun having two camera’s, so that we could take pictures of the ones taking pictures 😀

 Leah taking a picture of…somebody…

 {Cassia and Leah}

The sunlight was perfect for our photoshoot

 We love Cassia’s expression here!

Some of the pretty flowers in the woods nearby…we call it phlox…we think it’s phlox.

 Cassia being goofy

 We love this picture!  The flowers were some we found growing by the woods as well.

 Jessica being silly and getting in the way of Cassia’s picture.

 Speaking of silly…

 …and a nice one!

 Then it was Leah’s turn to get in the picture…

 {More fun pictures}

 {Note from Jessica}  I can’t tell you HOW much fun we had on those tracks!  Neither can I tell you HOW wonderful it is to have these amazing friends 😉

 Is that a train down there?!

We were laughing at some silly antic of Susannah’s…she is good at making us laugh!

 Anna laid on the tracks and took some pictures of us looking down at her…

 ::Being crazy::

 We also got some nice, posed shots 😀

 And some that weren’t planned, but turned out good!

 Now a train really IS coming…we were happily shooting away when we heard the train whistle.  “Shh!” someone said, “I think a train is coming.”  So we stood there ’til we saw it come around the corner and then quickly slip-slid down to the bottom of the hill.

 We couldn’t resist the chance to wave to the engineer…you can kind of see his had waving back at us 😀

It was exhilarating standing that close to the train as it went by.  As we stood there with it towering above us, one of the girls asked, “What would happen if the train derailed?”.  Thankfully it did not 😀

After the train went by we climbed back up to the tracks and took more pictures…

 Best Buds and Partners in Crime

Anna & Jessica

 {Leah}

Leah looking off to whoever is telling her a funny story.  We would stand behind the photographer and tell jokes or ridiculous stories to get our ‘subject’ to smile ‘for real’.  Sometimes when you’re sitting there smiling at a big lens for a long time it’s hard to smile ‘for real’ 😀  The stories we told were ridiculous, but they worked most of the time…

 Smiling ‘for real’.

 Jessica & Leah…also Best Buds and Former-Partners-In-Crime…even though Jessica was usually the one actually doing any ‘crime’  😉

 Pretending they don’t like each other.

 They burst out laughing shortly after the above picture.

 [ jessica ]

 Somebody must have been telling her a funny story as well…

 Susannah is always a character…

 We heard a gun-shot…right at the moment this picture was taken 😀  That gun-shot provided us with extra ideas for our funny stories.

 Best friends…

…but then,

 …maybe not.  They were supposed to act like they were mad at each other, and we told them, ‘but your arms are still around each other!’

 …so they did this.

Love this picture of Anna…

 MORE silly stories…we had her laughing so hard!

 Happy smile…

Susannah and Cassia, balancing on the rails.

This is Jessica, teasing Susannah and acting out how Susannah was when Anna started down the rocky hill with Susannah’s sandals on.  Susannah started saying, ‘Anna! Those…ooohhh(are my sandals).  Don’t…(wear them).  Ohhhh!’.  But Anna was already halfway down and to the bottom before Susannah could really get anything out and it struck Jessica’s funny bone how Susannah was helplessly protesting.

Anna left Susannah’s sandals towards the bottom of the rocks, and went barefoot over to pick some flowers for her picture.

 Climbing back up the rocks (and trying to put the sandal back on)

 Pretending her flowers are a microphone

 This is one of our favorite pictures 🙂

 Now THIS is a whole story in itself.  We had the idea to take a picture of Leah and Cassia, holding Jessica and Susannah down on the tracks…but somebody was clowning around [the girl sitting up], and was making it difficult to take pictures.  Did we mention that we were near a railroad crossing?  and on a semi-busy country road?

So every time we heard a car coming from the other side of the trees, Jessica and Susannah would sit up real fast before the drivers could see us, lest they think we were really losing our minds.  We had a lot of good laughs out of this one 😀

At the end of our two-hour photo shoot, we decided to sing and record our new song that we’ve recently learned.   It’s one of our favorites now and we thought the location would be perfect 😀

And thus was the end of our lovely photo shoot.

Sometime we’ll have to post more pictures of when we went into town…and to the park…and to the fire station.  All for Cassia’s senior pictures 😀

    @Climbing back up the rocks (and trying to put the sandal back on), I thought Anna was doing Airplane with a foot up, whew! Good that she was not, or your Mom is going to tweak her.

    LOVED the pictures!! It looks like you had a lot of fun. The song was great too. I liked how it was a bunch of songs put together, I know the I’ll fly away song but i’ve never heard that arrangement before. Oh and I really like all your dresses they are so pretty! If only I could sew…

    Looks like you girls had so much fun! I wanted to just tell you, if you don’t already know, that it is actually illegal to be on train tracks, and photographing on them. I bet you could get lovely photos of all of you anywhere, without breaking the law 🙂

    Can I ask you something? Over here in the UK, standing on or playing around on train tracks is seen as a massive ‘no no’. We’ve had some pretty big educational campaigns over the years to keep people away from them. Having a photo shoot on them would be unheard of and unthinkable here, unless the train tracks were disused (which the ones in the pictures aren’t). I’ve seen quite a few bloggers lately who have photo shoots on train tracks, all of them seem to be in the USA like you girls. Is it not seen as a dangerous thing to do for you? Do you not have safety campaigns in the USA to keep people off them?

    If you were to suggest to someone over here to have a photo shoot on an active train track, more than likely you would get the reply of, “Are you insane?!” It just wouldn’t be done as it is seen as dangerous.

    Anyway, other than that, nice pics and congrats on the graduation!

      Hi Sola!

      Good question! If there are safety campaigns in the U.S. to keep people off of the tracks, they don’t seem to be very widespread…we’ve never heard of any in this area 🙂 Perhaps it’s because the land is quite flat in this area, and you can hear a train’s whistle from 1/2 a mile away…though we do understand that an accident could still happen no matter how far away you see the train coming, and we also understand that it wouldn’t be wise to make a habit of walking on the tracks 😀 Also, the train track we were shooting on wasn’t very busy at the time…only one train went by in the 2 1/2 hours we were on it 😉

    Okay, the next time we get to spend some time with you all, I want–no, I’m demanding–that we do a photoshoot while we’re there with all us girls! That would be loads of fun! 🙂

    And the pictures really did capture Cassia’s personality very well–which is SILLY! HaHa! Tell Anna she did an awesome job!
