Eden is hosting Crochet or Knit Hats (and scarves) for Romania’s Orphans (you can also sew hats too!) at her blog. I joined last month and finished five hats so far…I plan on getting lots done while we’re on our trip (lots of sitting time 🙂 ), we’ll get back just in the nick of time to send them off before the deadline.
Noah asked if it was his hat 🙂 I asked him if I should make him one and he was excited about that…then I asked him if I should make it an orange one (his favorite color), he said yessss!!! 🙂
They need to be done and sent by October 15th in order to reach Hand of Help in Wisconsin so they can be shipped all together from there to Romania.
Lion Brand has some simple patterns, but you’ll have to get an account (which is free!) in order to view and use their patterns.
Here is the pattern I used:
Very Simple Crochet hat:
Using a J-sized hook (use any size you want, really. This is by measuring inches, not stiches)…
Chain 22-inches for a hat the size I did (about 55 chains, but just measure) Whatever amount you do, make sure it’s an odd number.
Turn
Single crochet in in second chain from hook, double crochet in next stitch
Repeat until you reach the end of the row, chain one and turn
Single crochet in next stitch, double crochet in next stitch…
Repeat until the hat is about 10″-11″ in hight or however tall you want it to be 🙂
Sew up the side. Gather the top together by weaving the end around the top and pulling tight. Tie a few good knots and weave in the ends.
If you join, be sure to let her know you found out through me. And then go tell your crafty friends and you’ll have a chance to win a free custom made apron! 🙂

Another project if anyone is interested in is Little Dresses for Africa. Right now at PLLM we’re having Project Pillowcase- making easy pillowcase dresses, collecting them at PLLM HQ and then shipping them all over to this organization. If anyone is interested in helping out with this project, please contact me over on my site!
