A couple of days ago, I posted an update saying that I had just finished decorating 3 graduation cakes, and promised to post some pictures soon 😀 Some friends in our area were doing five graduation open houses in one 🙂
The hardest thing about decorating a cake, is deciding what design you want to do 😀 Once I got that figured out, it went pretty fast! This first one was the easiest. I image googled “graduation cap templates”, printed one off, enlarged it on our copier, cut it out, and then squiggled all around it. “Squiggling” (technically called “sotas” ) is so easy and so fun! When I was done, I sprinkled some edible glitter over the sotas.
This second one is a chalkboard 🙂 I sprinkled a little bit of powdered sugar at the bottom for “chalk dust”, and more edible glitter over the whole cake. Can you tell that I like edible glitter?!
I put some colorful sprinkles on the bottom border…
I made this one to show a little bit of each or their interests. Julie is an artist, Mark likes to sing, Erik likes guitar, Andrew wants to be a chef, and Travis likes computers, and several of them play piano, so I put piano keys on the side.
After I was all done, Anna, Bekah, Charissa, Noah and Isaiah all wanted to play with the leftover icing. So I said, “Okay, but here are the rules! Wear aprons, squeeze it onto wax paper (not the counter!) and no eating it until you’re all done. Then you can have one lick!” They had already been snitching some icing, and did NOT need a lot more sugar 😀 As you can see, they had a lot of fun 😀

I wish I had a picture of when they were all done. Isaiah had a green face! He kind of had more than “one lick” and his face had green icing all over it 😀

Those turned out really great! I have tried decorating cakes before ( I made and artist’s pallet for my little sister’s birthday party last year) and they are harder than they look!

Beautiful!~ I am in awe of how you can draw and create with frosting!
Beautiful cakes, you are extremely talented.
Oh how we wish we lived near you so we could have you bake us a cake as well! The kids love to lick the bowl. Do you all let the little kids lick the bowl after you’re done. That’s just something you should never out grow. You all did a wonderful job!
Angie,
Yes! I should do it more often, but they do usually weasle their way into licking something 😀 I remember all the fun I used to have licking the icing bowls when Mommy was finished with decorating a cake, and even if we older ones aren’t licking a bowl, we’re snitching cookie dough 😀
Jessica
I LOVE chocolate chip cookie dough – YUM YUMMY!!!!
