Back in August of 2012 (has it been that long ago?!), I wrote a post about the beginning of my harp being repaired.  I fully meant to write  Part Two way before now, but…life got busy plus I wanted to add a video of one of my favorite songs, Amazing Grace.  It is also super hard to find a time that is quiet enough to make a video when you live in a house of eleven people 😀  Which is actually fine with me…it gets a little creepy quiet on the rare occasions that you’re the only one in the house 😀

Back to the harp…

The Happy Good News is that it’s fixed!!!  I’m so happy!  But I’m getting ahead of myself…

Here the soundboard,  neck, and column are laying out on his work table. We must have been also canning pears at that time, because they’re ripening on the table in the background 😉

This was the scariest part for me to watch…when Daddy started screwing the bolts back in.  I really trusted Daddy to work on my harp and wasn’t too concerned ’cause he’s so good at what he does 😀   But I did get a little nervous when one of the first bolts squealed and creaked as he was putting it in…I let out a little gasp 😀  Thankfully everything was fine, it was just protesting a little 😉

I forgot to mention all the work Daddy did on the column itself.  It had a few dings and dents in it, so Daddy puttied them and put several coats of stain and varnish and made it look so nice, it looks better than when I bought it!  I love how much attention to detail Daddy has 😀

Back where it belongs 😉

It took a few weeks of daily tuning to get all the strings to cooperate and finally hold any resemblance of a tune 😀   The first day I was able to play ‘Amazing Grace’ on it, I was practically hugging it as I played.  It was like welcoming an old friend back home 😀

In October of this year I put new strings on it, then in November I made my own harp cover 🙂  I did not have a harp cover prior to this, and was looking at some ready made ones to buy, but the more I looked at it, the more I thought, “Surely I can make that!”  I was able to sew this harp cover for only $27 as opposed to $400…happiness! 😀

Here’s the ‘hair do’ my harp had during the string change.  I got hit in the face a couple of times while changing those wires!  Thankfully I didn’t get hit too hard though 🙂

New Strings!

 The finished harp cover…

Cassia convinced me to embroider my initials on it…I’m glad she did 😉

And last of all…here’s Amazing Grace 🙂

Your harp is so pretty! I’m afraid that my little harp might be missing your beautiful playing, but I’m so glad you sold it to me. I would love to see more videos as well.

    Love,
