…A Smile!

There are so many people around us who are hurting…it could be from anything! Loosing a close friend, something simple as having a bad day or smashing a finger! Pain hurts, no matter the intensity.

As I steered my heavy shopping cart into the isle I was slowed down by several people a head of me. With college kids getting ready for school, being in the late afternoon, Walmart was extra busy.

I realized I was coming head on with a gentleman who was in  a mobility scooter, through the small crowd between us our eyes connected for a second. Getting closer I steered off so he wouldn’t have to “change lanes” 🙂 but first I looked at him and smiled.

I saw a gentle face, but I also saw a heart behind that face that was hurting. I have no idea what his hurt was, he looked perfectly normal to me, but for some reason he needed the help of the scooter. And for some reason, just like all of us at some point and time, was hurting.

When I smiled, his face lightened up a bit, and he turned a small smile back.

It was amazing getting to minister to this gentleman and brighten his day, even if it was just a little bit!

A smile is a gift that God has given each and everyone of us, and we can use it to bless those around us!

A gentle word, a kind look, a good-natured smile can work wonders and accomplish miracles.      -William Hazlitt

Did you know that it actually takes more muscles to frown than smile? 🙂

Let’s not always assume the worst about everyone,  even if they do look different then us, remember that they’re people too! Instead…

Shine God’s light through your smile! It blesses many people!

What a beautiful post, Cassia! I’m a little on the shy side, and I tend to avoid looking at people when I’m out and about … thank you for reminding me that a smile is one of the easiest ways to bless someone! I’m going to try that next time I go to campus or to a crowded store! 🙂

    Have a wonderful day!

    Love in Christ,

I’ve been having some of the worst days (emotionally) of my LIFE and more than once during these days the Lord has brought a Scripture, quotes, family devotion, and now this blogpost, to remind me that no matter how badly I’m hurting (and this is a LOT) that I still need to encourage others in the midst of this. I’m not the only one hurting, and millions of people CERTAINLY have it worse off than I do. Thanks for sharing this story and very true thought! God has used you!

Very true! Lovely reminder, Cassia. And the pictures are so pretty! 🙂 I often forget to smile at strangers, because, like some of the girls here, I tend to be on the shy side a lot of times! I forget how important it is….
