It’s not what you do in life, but how you do it.

The Recipe Box

Buttercream and Chocolate Frosting

Vanilla Buttercream

1 c. shortening

1 c. butter, softened

8 c. (2 lbs.) powdered sugar

1/4 t. salt

2 tsp. vanilla

approx. 4-6 T. milk

Beat all ingredients together except for milk.  Gradually add milk until the icing is the desired consistency.  You want it slightly softer for spreading, and slightly stiffer if you’re using the icing for decorating.  If you want a pure white icing, replace the butter with more shortening and add 1/2 t. butter flavoring.  Use clear vanilla also.  One to one-and-a-half batches of this icing will ice and decorate a 9″ x 13″ cake.

Chocolate Frosting

[this is from the back of the Hershey’s cocoa container]

1 c. butter

6 c. powdered sugar

1 1/3 c. cocoa

2 t. vanilla

milk

Beat all together and gradually add milk until you have the desired consistency.  Two batches of this frosting will ice and decorate a 9″ x 13″ cake 😀

Women & Children First

by Elizabeth

“Her eyes surveyed the icy waters as her hand tightly grasped the rail. Wasn’t it just last night when she was waltzing with her brother, James, on the deck of the remarkable Titanic? All seemed perfect then. And now! It was as if Katherine had awakened to discover a nightmare unfolding before her eyes…”[read more]

Cute Quotes

Isaiah came in the house from outside and said he needed another band-aid (he had gotten one not too long before).  Leah asked him if it was bleeding, and he said, “um, it hurts but if I get a band-aid it will feel much more better.” 😀  Then as Leah was writing this down he came with a band-aid on his toe and said, “See, I told you it would be better!”

Isaiah was cutting up his apple and accidentally cut a nice gash on his finger and after his sisters put a band-aid on, he was constantly wanting to take it off. Susannah told him to leave it on for awhile yet since it was a big cut. Then he told her, “Well, just don’t blame me if it comes off when I’m swimming.”   😀

Awhile ago we were having liver quite a bit (almost every day).  They boys actually liked it, and we told them that liver gives you energy.   They would even ask us to make one for them, because they wanted ‘generdy’ 😀

One day Isaiah was very wired and definitely full of energy.  Cassia asked him, “Where did you get all of your energy?”  and he replied, “from liver!”  😀

Oh! I have the most wonderful cake recipe…no flour, no sugar, and no dairy….. do you have a recipe like that? I’m typing it into the computer now, and I’d be happy to send it to you when I’m done. I’ve got two different frosting recipes too.

Yes, I know, I fell off the earth! I need to send you an email terribly. 😉

Hi Jessica, Leah, Susannah and Cassia! *waving*

That pic of the girl standing on top of the eiffel (sp?) tower gave me goosebumps! I.do.NOT.like.heights. Eeeek!

And all the quotes are so darn cute! I could see Noah and Isaiah saying those things! Just like Levi the other day, Lennon was in his carseat crying, and Levi tells my mom “Mama, Lennon’s eyes are sweating!” LOL! We all cracked up so hard!

Hehe! I can’t believe we didn’t tell you that 😀 We just kept 50 more livers this past Saturday…want us to send you some??? 🙂

I’m pretty sure Susannah read the Botkin book all the way through, and I’ve gotten about 1/3 to 1/2 through 🙂 So far, very good! 😀 For some reason it is easier to read than So Much More, but I was younger when I started reading So Much More, so maybe that’s why! 😀

I love your comments, Auntie Jen! 😀
