Quote of the Week

“God has not called us to build our lives around the pursuit of our own selfish desires, but to be poured-out sacrifices for His kingdom…a poured-out life for Jesus Christ is a worthy goal worth pursuing.”

Leslie Ludy, Sacred Singleness

Mr. Popper’s Penguins

A very fun read-aloud…we girls remember Mommy reading it to us, and now we are in the middle of reading it to the boys (much to Noah’s delight–he’s a penguin lover 😀 )

The Recipe Box

Cappuccino Chocolate Chip Cookies

These cookies were created by Charissa for her 4H project in the ‘Create-With-a-Mix’ category.  We should have started with an actual box mix instead of a cookie recipe, but the result is delicious!  She won a blue ribbon with these (:

3 1/4 c. flour

1 1/2 c. sugar

1 c. (2 sticks) butter, softened

3/4 c. cappuccino drink mix

1/2 c. hot chocolate drink mix

1- 3.5 oz. package instant vanilla pudding

 1 tsp. salt

1 tsp. soda

1 tsp. vanilla

2 eggs

1 c. (or more!) chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350°F.  Mix together flour, cappuccino mix, hot chocolate mix, instant vanilla pudding powder, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl.  Beat butter, sugar and vanilla together until creamy.  Add eggs one at a time.  Stir in chocolate chips.  Start with one cup and add as many as you like in your cookie dough (for us, that’s a lot 😉 ).  Roll cookie dough into balls and then roll in white sugar. Bake on a greased cookie sheet for 8 to 10 minutes.

Cute Quotes

and farmgirl funnies

While working on her 4H Genealogy project, Bekah asked:

“How do you spell ancestors? Is it a.n.n.s.i.s.t.e.r.s.?”

Last Sunday on the way home from church we passed a gas station that advertised ‘free Wifi’.

Charissa exclaimed, “Free WIFE?!!” and cracked up laughing 😀

Mr. TruGreen truck pulls into our driveway.

We start to wonder, is does he know he’s in the wrong yard? or is he going to ask us if our big brown yard would like some help??

We watch him get out of his truck and look around, then he pulls out his equipment and starts working on the yard!!! So I walk out there quickly and say, “I think the yard you’re supposed to be doing is over there” (pointing at the neighbors who always have Mr. TruGreen truck over).

We have two of the neighbors’ mailboxes in our yard besides our own, so he saw the address and thought he was supposed to do our yard. He was probably thinking, “I’m going to be here in the hot sun for a looooonnngggg time!”  -Jessica

Bekah: “Anna is Quaker, you want to know why? Because she ate another piece of lettuce and said, ‘another piece for good measure’.  Because in the Bible, in the story of the children of Israel, somebody says, ‘for good measure’, like when they’re doing the sacrifices.”

Anna: “Bekah, the children of Israel are not Quaker.”

Bekah:  “Then why did you say I’m Quaker when I said, ‘it stinketh’?”

Charissa: “Is Quaker, Quaker Oats?”

Bekah put the ‘stinketh’ with the King James language, and thought that was what Anna was talking about-thus the reason she thought the Israelites were Quakers 😀
