Quote of the Week

“Don’t have your concert first and tune your instrument afterward.  Begin your day with God.”

The Bookshelf

This book is full of all kinds of neat farmgirl stuff, from sewing, to gardening, to setting up a tent house!  We loved looking through this book 😀

Note: there were a few sections we skipped through, so just use your judgement as you read 😀

Videos of the Week

We have a fast food song that we like to sing (we sang it for our little town’s festival variety show this past weekend).  Last Sunday we met with some friends at a park for a picnic and to visit after church.  One thing we didn’t know is that the particular park we picked had locked all of the restrooms so we got in the van and found an Arby’s restaurant nearby.  Mommy felt kind of bad that there were so many of us using their restroom and we weren’t buying anything, so she bought a jamocha shake for us all to share, and we sang our fast food song for them 😀  We’ve always talked about doing this, but this was our first time!  The video is not of us in the restaurant, obviously, but we didn’t think to have one of the employees record us 😀  Anyway, you’ll get to hear the song.

Susannah got on YouTube and found another fast food song that was quite funny!

The Recipe Box

Strawberry Pancake Syrup

Fill your blender with strawberries, and add sugar to taste (for our Vita Mix, we put in about a cup of sugar.  Blend.  Makes about 3 pints.  We made a bunch of this up and put it in the freezer so that we can have it all through the year 🙂

Strawberry Freezer Jam

1 quart strawberries, washed and hulled

4 c. sugar

1 box Sure-Jell pectin

Put the strawberries into a 9 x 13″ pan and mash them with a potato masher until you have small even chunks.  Stir in the sugar, and then set a timer for 10 minutes and stir the sugar often until the 10 minutes is up.  Prepare your pectin according to the package directions and add it in to your strawberry mixture, stirring constantly for 3 minutes.   Pour the jam into clean pint jars (or freezer containers) making sure to leave a 1/2 inch headspace.  Let set at room temperature for 24 hours and then freeze.  Makes 2 1/2 to 3 pints.

Strawberry Smoothie

Along with a muffin, we like to have these for breakfast!

1 c. milk

1 T. sugar or honey

1/8 t. vanilla

{small handful} of frozen strawberries–however many you like.  If the strawberries aren’t frozen, add in 3-5 ice cubes.

half a banana

Blend all together in a blender.  Makes one large smoothie.

If you don’t have a banana (bananas go fast around here!) you can skip it and it still tastes good 😀

Farmgirl Favorites

Possum Pot Pie

We surely aren’t from the mountains, because we’ve never eaten possum, but this song was quite funny!  “You folks from the city, you really miss out…”

This blog is SO neat!  This lady does everything from turning a regular basket into something very cute, to making over a dress  that her daughter spilled paint on–and it looks better than it did before the paint got on it 😀  She also took a shirt of her own that got bleach on it and made it over into a cute little dress for her daughter.  You will be inspired!

Cute Quotes

Last night when eating supper, Isaiah said, “I don’t want any bread corn.” (cornbread) 😀

In our 4H club, you have to give a demonstration every year that you are in 4H unless you are a first year member.  A few years ago, the some of the girls were discussing the 4H meeting they were going to that evening and Bekah asked Cassia if they had to do an imitation (demonstration) that year 🙂

About 4 years ago one morning, Noah and Isaiah were crying and Charissa said, “I wish we could just we-wind this!” (rewind)  The person who wrote it into our family journal said, “”I would rather fast forward :D”

Hello, I am new to your blog, but so far I like it very much! I LOVE goats and hope to have some some day. (my family doesnt feel the same way about them as I do haha) I was writing to ask about the way you all dress. I have changed the way dress alot in the past 6 months and I want to learn as much about the proper or the most Godly way to dress. So if you could tell me your reasions for dressing the way you do I would be very greatful. Thank you. ~Kendra~

Hello Kendra! I laughed when you said that your family doesn’t feel the same way about goats as you do…I could see why 😀 Possibly because goats are SO stubborn 😀 But we like them anyways!
But to answer your question, we dress the way we do because we want to be modest and feminine 🙂 It is kind of funny when people ask if we “have” to wear them because it is kind of hard to answer 😀 It’s kind of like asking us if we have to eat dessert 😀 Daddy and Mommy like us to, and we like to 🙂

We wear the headcovering as a symbol that we are under Daddy’s authority (and later our husbands authority 🙂 ). Daddy and Mommy studied 1 Corinthians 11 and decided that Mommy should wear a headcovering. As each of us have gotten old enough to understand what it is about, and wanted to do it, then we’ve started wearing them, too :).

Thanks for commenting! We LOVE comments 😀

I loved the quotes, particularly the last one. 🙂 Of course your fast food song is GREAT! 🙂

Is it just me or has the theme the last week been strawberries???? Hmmm… I wonder why that is??? 🙂 Oh, how I wish I could have some of your fresh (with no crazy, chemicals/pesticides) strawberries! 🙂
