Just recently, Daddy cut up and removed the tree that crashed down Christmas Day…he was transporting the stump to the burn pile and so Bekah, Charissa, Noah and Isaiah hitched a ride 🙂

Farmgirl Favorites

Some of us girls really like interesting words, and/or finding out how expressions were started…we stumbled across a website, “Weird Words” that has a bunch of definitions for such words 🙂  Enjoy!

JEEP

Definition:

a car suitable for traveling over rough terrain (trademarked by Chrysler)

Description:

Most people think of it as a proper word relating to an army styled vehicle.
In fact it does have a meaning “Just Engine and Essential Parts”. Therefore is more of an abbreviation adopted as a word.

Out of the Blue

Definition:

A complete surprise.

Description:

Thomas Carlyle (1837).  The French Revolution.

‘Arrestment, sudden really as a bolt out of the blue, has hit strange victims’

Posh

Definition:

classy: elegant and fashionable

Description:

It actually came from a phrase used by the East India Trading Company, which, of course, was based in London.

When it booked passengers round-trip to India, the more affluent passengers would request a cabin on the side of the ship least exposed to the Atlantic Ocean gales.

Hence, they were given cabins ‘port outbound, starboard homebound.’ It eventually was abbreviated to posh.

Cute Quotes

A couple of years ago, Bekah and Charissa were heard singing their own version of “Where Should I Go?”

“Where should I go, oh where should I go, seeking a rescue for my soul!”

{the words to the song say “a refuge for my soul” }

Once, Charissa and Noah were trying to find Bekah in a game of hide-and-seek.  Charissa called out:

“Bekah!  We forgive up!  I mean, we give up!”

Bekah: “Noah, can we share money? or not?”

Noah: “Um, or not.”

One day Noah wanted help with his bike and Susannah offered to help him, but he went to Jessica.  Susannah jokingly said, “Noah, if I give you ice cream can I help you?”  Jessica told him to tell her, “No!  That’s bribing!”  so Noah told Susannah, “No!  That’s driving!”

Hi, I like that new website that you mentioned – Weird Words. I bookmarked it so I can go back there to really investigate. Looked really neat!

Pinwheels are also SO scrumptious! My family has a very similar recipe… I just love eating them, whenever we make them.

    Have a blessed day!
