Quote of the Week
“Burnout does not come from hard work, burnout comes from working with a wrong spirit…from working without connecting to the Holy Spirit while you’re working.”
Mike Bickle
John Ortberg has a way of writing that makes you laugh, challenges you, and convicts you all at once! We have been really enjoying these books, fighting over them at times 😀 We highly recommend them.

Not Quite The Farmgirl Style…
Recently, a friend of ours sent us a link to the strangest looking umbrella we’ve seen! We must admit, it’s a good idea, but none of us girls are going to rush and get one! We like the old fashioned look a little better! Or actually, we’d rather just run fast between the house and the barn and forget the umbrella. We got a kick out of it so we thought you might!

The Recipe Box
Homemade Krispy Kreme Donuts
2 cups scalded milk
1/2 cup butter
2/3 cup sugar, divided
1 t. yeast
4 eggs, beaten
1/4 t. nutmeg
7 c. flour
{Glaze}
3 c. powdered sugar
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. vanilla
1/2 c. cold water
-
Mix together ingredients for glaze in a small saucepan until warm. Set aside.
-
Melt butter in hot milk, add 1 t. sugar and salt. Allow to cool.
-
Beat in yeast, nutmeg, eggs and 3 cups flour, and rest of sugar.
-
Add rest of flour (dough will be sticky)
-
Knead for 5 minutes (or until dough is smooth and elastic…so that when you poke your finger gently into the dough, the dough springs back). Note: we hardly knead it for a full 5 minutes. Allow to rise for 1 to 1 1/2 hours*.
-
Roll out dough into a 1 inch thickness. Cut into doughnut shapes. Allow to rise again for 30-40 minutes*.
-
Pour 2 to 3 inches of oil into your pan and heat it to 365 degrees Farenheit. Fry each donut or donut hole for 1-2 minutes on each side or until brown.
-
Let donuts cool on a paper towel to help drain off the grease. Dip in the warm glaze.
*We hardly ever do two risings…if you just cut out the donut shapes and let them rise for one rising time, they still taste delicious!!!
We girls have been very blessed to find Grace Mally’s blog! It is so much fun to read and her stories of witnessing are especially encouraging and challenging!
Funny Quotes
Once Noah was looking at the lady bugs on Bekah’s dress…they had little dotted lines behind them, sort of like what you see in pictures behind butterflies. He said, “Those ladybugs have weird tails!”
One Sunday when we were getting ready for church, Isaiah kept telling the girls, “I want a twistie! I want a twistie like Daddy!” We finally figured out that he meant he wanted to wear a tie
A couple of years ago, Charissa was telling Susannah about how her tummy had been feeling sick ever since church was “just missed”….our pastor always tells us that we are “dismissed” 🙂
Several years ago, we girls would play “Cowboys and Robbers”, though we never really gave it a name. Some shiny objects, or rocks would be the “gold”, and the robbers would try and get it away from the “good cowboys”…a very ladylike game, I know! So anyways, this will explain what Charissa said to Cassia one day…
Charissa was looking at Cassia’s ring and asked, “Is it real gold?”
Cassia said “Yes.”
“BAD guys will steal it!” Then she asked, “are the hearts (on the ring) gold?”
Cassia again replied that they were.
Charissa said, “Bad guys will steal it because they want it for their wives!”

dear farmgirls,
I tried clicking on the video of the week, and it wouldn't allow me to click on it…it's just like the other words. For your info.
The umbrella was funny!!
Also, do you know if you can make donuts w/o a deep fryer? Just wondering….
Well, I'm off to make hot Chocolate! TTYL!!
Love in Christ,
Rachel
(PS-tell anna HELLO!) 🙂
I could have waited until you posted it. 🙂 unless you posted the recipe because I brought it up. 😛 hehe, any other way, I'm making some tomorrow morning. 🙂
hugs!
Yes – you can make it without a deep fryer. I myself don't have one, and I've made doughnuts, sufganiyots (Jewish doughnuts), sopaipillas, and french fries too. 🙂 I just use a tall saucepan and add about two inches of palm shortening (as its the best for frying – and it has no taste) and heat it up nicely, then fry them as usual. 🙂 no deep fryer needed.
I was just letting you know that I am giving you a pass it on! So please comment on my blog that you need the code and I'll give that to you over PM! Thanks and God Bless!
