We know we said that we would tell you about the lighthouse tomorrow, but we still have 3 or so posts to show you and we just finished this one, so we thought you wouldn’t mind too much if you had an extra one to read today 😉

Little Sable was so much fun!  We got to climb to the top, and the guide at the top *loved* lighthouses and we got to hear all kinds of interesting lighthouse history 😀  She was great!  They used to burn lard oil for the light, then later kerosene.  If the lamp smoked, they had to clean not only the windows, but every piece of the Fresnel lens!

You can see the little rail around the window…that’s where the lightkeeper would walk to clean the windows.  It wasn’t very wide up there!  We were on the lower railing, and that was pretty small, so you can imagine what the higher walk was like!

Ohhhhhh!  Don’t look down!   It gave us a queasy feeling to look over the side, but the guide at the top said it was exhilarating to her!

The guide was so nice as to take our picture for us 😀   See?  The walk around the top was not very wide!

Lake Michigan…don’t you love those blues?  You can kind of see in the sand where people wrote big  messages in the sand to be seen at the top.  When we came down we wrote our own messages, including a note to our guide 😀

Here’s a picture of Bekah’s and Noah’s names, and it looks like Noah has drawn a lighthouse in the sand 😀

Around the railing they had these little signs, telling you how far away you were from different points…Washington D.C., Dallas TX, Mackinaw Island, etc.

More pretty blue water!

The shadow of the lighthouse…

Down by the water there was ‘singing sand’…it ‘sings’ (or rather squeaks!) when you drag your heel in it.  It was really neat!

Tomorrow we’ll show you pictures of the dunes around Silver Lake 😀  Oh, that was fun!

p.s.  here’s the video tour of the lake house we took for you 😀

Looks like you had a fun time! I loved the purple room since purple is my favorite color! I do have a question though. Since it seems like you travel frequently, what has your favorite trip been so far?

Wow!! Now I really want to go there! I love lighthouses and I loved the video about the lake house. Next time you go there could you take me! LOL 😀 My favorite picture was the one about your feet being 92 feet up! That would be so cool and so scary all at the same time. I just wish I was there to really feel it! 😀 I also really like the picture of the lighthouse shadow. Thanks for taking the time to post all this stuff! It’s really neat to see everything y’all saw one your vacation. 🙂
    Blessings,
    Tulip
