You know that we have this tradition of decorating our rooms each Christmas with our “roommates”, and then having a “showing” for the rest of the family to see…usually at night to show off the Christmas lights and candles π
Leah and I have both been super busy with working, and Leah was practicing for her Christmas concert, and then just getting ready for Christmas, that we didn’t get our room redecorated until the week before Christmas!Β BUT we got it done in record time…only taking ONE afternoon instead of several π
If you follow us on Facebook, you know that Leah is a master decorator…and over the past few years our decorating sessions have had her “fixing” my attempts, lol!Β I was quite proud of myself for sneaking some airplane things in there…more on that later!
Part One of our room redecorating is the rearranging and cleaning part.Β I had no idea we had that much dust in our room!Β Usually Leah doesn’t want to rearrange, and I do.Β She always says, “But this way is so PERFECT!”Β And I respond with, “But there is a new perfect way out there we need to discover!!!”Β This year I actually toyed with the idea of not rearranging, and Leah actually disagreed with me and said we needed to do it anyway! π
Our room becomes a topsy-turvy mess while we’re rearranging π
Charissa’s chocolate chip cookies gave us the sustenance and energy we needed for this project πΒ Books were unearthed.Β Dust flew everywhere.
And now comes the fun part…the decorations!!!
(If you want the full room-show experience, you can listen to the music we played for everyone when we showed them ours π )
Our Christmas tree π
(like how I snuck in my Ninety-Nines scarf?)
Our beehive bookcase sitting atop our vanity. We love this thing…it’s so old fashioned and pretty looking and useful at the same time. And we dug them out of our dad’s shop πΒ You can still smell beeswax on them….yummmm!
Notice the snowflakes drawn on the window?Β Both Rebekah and Leah have these chalk marker pens, and they’ve been experimenting with drawing on our windows and mirrors…and it looks so cool!
I was proud of myself for finding the holes in the wall from previous years and screwing the shelf to the wall all by myself πΒ It’s important the shelf is screwed to the studs in the wall so that it doesn’t come crashing down on our heads some night πΒ Leah of course did the lovely lettering on the chalkboard like she always does!Β I snuck in my little red Christmas horse like I always do (with Leah giving me “the look”, lol!).
Close up of Leah’s work.
This is probably my favorite part of the whole room for obvious reasons.Β A pilot friend of mine gave me this old sectional (aviation map) a few months ago and I was itching to display it SOMEHOW. Leah was working on the bookshelf when I started trying to tack the old sectional up on the wall and she turned around and saw me and gave me “the look”Β that says, “Um…what do you think you’re doing?!”Β Haha!Β I told her, “You just turn around and keep working over there…I’m not done yet!” and she laughed and did as I told her as all good younger sisters should do πΒ After I started on it, she admitted that she did like it, and she suggested we add the star…then we added the burlap…and when she was turned the other way I tacked up the wooden airplane that Isaiah made for me last year π
We also added Christmas colored books and journals, and I put the little metal spark plug airplane on top, given to me by my friend Sharon, the airport manager at my home airport πΒ And so that’s how I snuck my airplanes in π
Leah told me that she had an idea for something, but she wouldn’t tell me what!Β I was gone that evening at my flying club meeting, and when I came home I walked into our room and saw that Leah had decorated more glass….SO cool!
And that concludes our Christmas Room Reveal for 2016 π Β Β Merry Christmas!!!

Hello! I’ve read (and enjoyed) your blog for a long time, but I’ve never commented before. Now I am! Your room is so beautiful and artistic……unlike mine π I was wondering: what is the reasoning behind jumpers and not skirts? I love jumpers but I can’t afford them (I don’t sew). Also, have you ever considered wearing skirts? I hope I’m not being rude…..it’s just something I’ve always wondered. God bless!

Hey Naomi!
Sorry to just now be commenting…for some reason we didn’t see your comment until now! π So glad you enjoy the blog!
The jumpers vs. skirts I think was partially out of preference…we liked the way they looked more than skirts. And they were more comfy π Some of us have started wearing skirts in some different situations, but most of us still prefer the jumpers. Thanks for asking π
-Jessica
Don’t worry about not getting back: that’s ok!
I think both jumpers and skirts are pretty and feminine, and I understand “preferences.” I use to wear a lot of dresses (found at retail shops and sometimes handmade by an online seamstress) and they were so comfortable and easy! But now, I’m finding skirts are just more practical for me in my stage of life as an R.A. and soon-to-be homesteader π My clothes now have to be easy-to-find and not so $$. Plus, I get claustrophobic if I have too many layers on π π
Sorry for rambling, and may Jesus bless all of you!
Thanks Naomi!
I understand the cost! It can get expensive, even if you do sew!
I used to hate having a waistband around my waist, haha! It may have had something to do with a skirt I made myself when I was about 12 years old with a waistband so tight it was uncomfortable to wear…but I wasn’t gonna let all that work be for nothing, haha! π
Thanks for commenting…it was fun to hear from you π

Hello Jessica,
I found you through Sarah Coller’s blog.
Your room was beautiful! I love all the little feminine touches.
I’m inspired to decorate our bedrooms next winter. We shall see.
I loved the In Grandma’s Attic stories. I read them to my children years ago.
Be blessed of the Lord and highly favored!
