It has been quiet here on the blog, but not in our house! We’ve been hidden away in our rooms sewing up a storm! Plus we’ve had some lovely friends over and so many more blog post worthy things…maybe we’ll just post about them all after Christmas 😀 I think almost all the gifts are done 😀 I can’t believe that Christmas is tomorrow! I just love this season!
As you probably know from previous years, we girls like to rearrange and redecorate our room each year for Christmas 😀 We shut the door, move everything around, make a huge mess, finally get it cleaned up, and then we decorate it and have a ‘showing’ one night for everybody who doesn’t ‘live’ in that room to come see 😀 I’m really hoping that Susannah and Cassia will do a post on their room, and Anna, Bekah and Charissa do one on theirs…they’re both so pretty!
This year’s project was a chalkboard. We’ve seen lots of pretty ones on Pinterest and Leah had the idea to make one for our room. So Daddy picked up some paint, I painted the board, and Leah did the lettering. Isn’t it pretty?! And it’s from one of my favorite Christmas songs, too 😀
The chalkboard kind of went with our semi ‘primitive’ theme this year, which was another brilliant idea of Leah’s 😀 When she first had the idea to decorate more ‘primitive’ style, I couldn’t quite envision what that would look like in our room, but I love it now 😀 Instead of the ribbons we usually put on our little tree, we did a burlap bow.
It’s kind of hard to see, but we have burlap on top of our beehive bookcases with doilies over the burlap.
More of Leah’s good ideas… 😀 She glued together some sticks to make a star, then wrapped Christmas lights around it 😀 That idea was from Pinterest…of course! I was going to give the boys my old chalkboard and Leah was teasing me about giving away ‘part of my childhood’ 😀 I can remember pretending to be ‘Laura’ when we would play ‘Little House on the Prairie’ and that was my slate for school. It has a big crack down the middle of it, but Leah did some more pretty chalk art and it looks just lovely. One morning I was brushing my hair in front of the mirror in the picture above, and as I looked at the shelf in the reflection I realized that it ‘spelled out’ a song. “O Holy Night” ‘the star is brightly shining’ 😀
For the first time ever, we had two trees in our room and this one was live! 😀 I cut off three small branches from our pine trees in the yard and stuck them in some floral foam in a crock we had. A square of burlap and a doily completed our ‘primitive tree’ 😀
Anna recently bought a very nice camera and was so nice to let me use it…so I had some fun with our old books. Old books are just so lovely, aren’t they?!!
Leah’s Willow Tree angel
My Willow Tree look-alike angels 😉
This isn’t part of our room, but I was very excited to have found a way to re-light our Christmas tree angel. The old lights burned out several years ago, and since I always remembered her being lit up, and holding a ‘candle’, it just wasn’t the same to have her sit up there all dark every Christmas. We tried putting new lights in her, but she need special ones because the regular ones started to melt the plastic. When I was up in the attic looking for more lights for our room, I saw another angel that is rather dilapidated and we don’t put her out anymore. But her lights work! So I changed out Miss Dilapidation’s lights for Miss Angel on the Tree’s broken lights…and it worked! And now everything is how it should be 😉
Our stockings. I can’t wait to stuff these tonight!
