At last! We finally get to tell you all about Fred!!! Even though we were enjoying all these comments, we were also anxious to tell you about him 😀 We loved reading each and every one of them and hope that some of you aren’t disappointed when we say that Fred is a Shih-Tzu…a dog 😀 He isn’t a car, a buck, a bull, a salamander, or even a suitor 😀 He is pretty cute though! Don’t you agree?!
It all started with our grandma. One day she called Daddy and asked him if he’d come over because she had something she wanted to show him. If she would have said it was Fred, he wouldn’t have come, and she knew that 😀 It is doubtful very many of us would have wanted to come see Fred! Last fall our other Shih-Tzu (named Pooh) died of old age, and though we were sad that she had died, we also discovered how we liked not having to take the dog outside 3 times in 20 minutes! Okay, it was only that bad sometimes, but along with Pooh’s old age came heart problems, and along with heart problems came heart pills and water pills and therefore she had to go outside a LOT! We also liked going camping without bringing the dog along, and all around, we decided we did not want another inside dog.
However, Grandma had other ideas! Only some of us came along after church one Sunday to see whatever this was Grandma wanted to show us. The others were at home finishing up 4H projects that were due the next day 😀 Our Grandma lives in an apartment building and knew this man had to get rid of his little Shih-Tzu. As we said before, she also knew that we’d hear none of it if she had told us over the phone to come see this dog. So we were sitting in the lobby, visiting with Grandma before we went up to her apartment, when this man comes off the elevator with his dog. Our grandma is very sneaky! She mentioned that the dog’s name was Fred, and we petted him. She also mentioned that Fred’s owner was looking for a home for Fred, since he really couldn’t keep him there at the apartments very much longer. It took a little bit before we realized, “Oh! This is what Grandma wanted to show us!!!” It didn’t take too long to convince us that we really did want Fred after all 😀 All of the residents at the apartment building love Fred and did not want him to go away! He is only 3 years old (no old dog with heart troubles! at least for a while!) and he was very well behaved 😀 It was decided that we’d come get him sometime after the fair.
Those of us who were at home had no idea what had been decided until Mommy went to the computer, plugged her phone into it, and brought up a picture of Fred. “What dog is that?” we said.
“We saw him at Grandma’s,” she said 😀
“Oh?! Is it Grandma’s dog?!” We didn’t think Grandma would get a dog, but you never know!
“No, he’s ours!”
“What?!” 😀
After we heard what a good little puppy he was, and saw how cute he was, and just the fact that Daddy said it was okay, convinced the rest of us who hadn’t had the privilege of meeting Fred yet, that we wanted him, too!
We had no idea Fred would cause such suspense, until we posted the first post about Fred! When several of you began to speculate that he was a suitor we were laughing that when one of us does start courting, and we announce it on our blog, you are just going to think it is another dog!!!
Now to explain the seemingly pointless “clues” we had for you….
Fred Update #1 said that Fred was coming over in a couple of weeks, which is what happened. We knew we couldn’t get him until after the fair, and the fair just ended last week 😀
Fred Update #2 said that Susannah didn’t think Fred had a chance. When they visited Grandma at the apartment and she was telling Daddy about Fred, trying to convince us to take him, Susannah really didn’t think that Daddy would say yes, because there were several of us who didn’t want another inside dog after Pooh died.
Fred Update #3 said that ever since last fall, Daddy and Jessica didn’t want someone like Fred over for a long time 😀 Last fall is when Pooh died, and both Daddy and Jessica didn’t want another inside dog. You may remember the poem about Jessica’s Pet Peeve 😀
Fred Update #4 informed you that everyone liked him, even our Grandma did 😀 The only person who didn’t was Isaiah, who for some strange reason has developed a fear of animals. He is warming up to Fred though! Thankfully! You can’t be afraid of animals if you’re a farm boy 😀
Fred Update #5 said that Fred helped Susannah get her job back. She used to groom Pooh, and lost that job when Pooh died last fall. Now that we have Fred, she has her dog-grooming job back 😀
Fred Update #6 said that Fred was not only going to be here this week, but would also be here for Susannah’s graduation open house in August. The reason is obvious, since he is a dog, and he’s staying with us 😀
Fred Update #7 and #8 just told you that you were about to find out soon! We originally had only 6 updates, and we weren’t sure just exactly when we were going to be getting Fred, so we made a few more! We were undecided if we were going to make you all wait until he was actually here or not, but then on Saturday we discovered that we’d be getting him on Sunday and we figured we’d speed things up a bit!
Yesterday when we went to pick Fred up we discovered that we knew Joe’s (Fred’s owner) granddaughter through 4H 😀 I guess she told him that she thought we had 10 kids. Joe told her, “No, they only have 9!” When Grandma heard that she laughed, “Only nine?!”
Thank you all for your patience, and all your comments!!! We loved reading them all 😀
Hey, what’s the matter Fred?! You want to say something to them, too?

Oh, okay! Well, we think he means to say ‘hi’ and that he liked all of your comments, too, but until we teach him to type for real, we can’t be sure!

WELCOME, FRED! Congrats, all of you who guessed a DOG! I was half right, I knew it was an animal!!!! 😀 I’m so glad…..I did stay up for it! (actually, I didn’t stay up, we always go to bed late) 😀 I knew it, I told you I knew it!!!! 😀 Hee hee! Now I’m wondering what to do with my life! 😀
I know what you mean!!! Just what are we going to do without posting new Fred updates and reading all these lovely comments?! 😀
~Jessica
Congratulations! Fred is VERY cute!
However, I do understand your initial reluctance. Our rottweiler died of old age about 4 years ago. She was absolutely the best dog we’ve ever owned and we were sad to lose her, but after the initial sadness wore off, we were like you and were actually quite happy to not have a dog to clean up after or walk or have to board if we wanted to go out of town.
We still haven’t taken the plunge and gotten another dog, but I do think that if the right one came along, we would welcome one into our home and hearts again.
In the meantime, we have a lionhead bunny (named Connor) — he’s a house bunny and although he does have a cage, he’s litter box trained and is let out to roam the house almost daily.
Enjoy Fred and keep posting pictures of him — he’ll be a full family member (and maybe will be typing his own posts) in no time at all!:-)
Blessings!
Yes, that’s exactly how we felt!!! That is so cute that you have a litterbox trained bunny! I’ve heard about people doing it, and it would be so fun to have a bunny hopping around the house! Though I don’t think a bunny and Fred would be the best of friends 😀
Jessica
Fred is just adorable! I love the last photo of him and the laptop! So cute. I’m happy for you all. We’ve been wanting to get a puppy for the longest while too, but we have two cats who don’t really get along with dogs so we’ll have to wait. Congratulations on the new pet! I’m so happy everyone agreed to get him.
HA! That’s hysterical! 😀 A dog, who would have thought? I read all the clues but I don’t think I ever commented on them…I was too puzzled! 😉 Fred is so cute, I hope he has a great life out on the Seven Sisters Farm. 🙂
Blessings,
~Hannah Grace
LOL! Yes, I think he has already decided he likes life on the farm!!! When we take him outside he goes for the goat pen and tries to crawl through the fence! Can you see a Shih-Tzu herding goats?!
~Jessica
AWW he is so cute!
Hehe yall are so sneaky:)
Kelsye
Woohoo! I was wondering if it was a dog, but then last night I had a dream that it was a male goat, and so as soon as I got up I was like “I have to go find out the truth…” 🙂 Now I must go finish my breakfast before I faint of hunger! 🙂
Enjoy your new pet!!!!! 🙂

Finally, it has been revealed! What fun it was when we were in the dark about who Fred was. A Shih-Tzu? So cute! I do hope to hear more about Fred in the coming weeks.

Haha! I knew he was an animal, but I didn’t know if he was a dog! He is cute! Congrats!
😀
Okay, I will be completely honest with you, my sisters and I are a little disappointed it is not a man, but I did start wondering if Fred was maybe an animal!!! Nevertheless, thanks for the great (or should I say terrible) updates…you sure did a good job on keeping us in suspense:):)
Hope you have fun with your little Fred!!!! And I don’t remember who guest it was a dog before, but Congrats to them for guessing correctly!!!!!!!!!!
Blessings from the gladheart girls:-):-)

P.S. Do keep checking our blog Jessica, we are planning something for our six-mouth anniversary of blogging and we would love for you to be involved!!!!
Oh goody! Or should I be worried?! Are you going to torture me like we tortured you??? 😀
I’m terribly sorry that Fred was not all you were hoping him to be!!! 😀 Glad you had fun! I know we did 😀
Can’t wait to see what it is that you’re planning! I’m going to check on your blog right now 😀
~Jessica
okay, have fun Jessica!!!!! The girls are good at posting new things but I’m a little slower at it!!! (Just for future heads-up):-)
OK, that was just funny! And he is so cute.
The funny thing is, I use a program to recieve updates from your blog, but sometimes, it only shows the first couple of sentences of the post, instead of the whole thing. So today, I sat down and started to read it, and the post ended like this:
We loved reading each and every one of them and hope that some of you arent disappointed when we say that Fred is a…
Talk about keeping me in suspence! I thought computers didn’t have emotions… 🙂
Congratulations one and all!
Jessica
LOL! Oh that is hilarious!!! Even the computer was on our side! 😀
~Jessica
OH YAY! That is awesome you girls got a new dog! We will be getting a dog too when we get back from our exit trip. A new friend of ours here is moving and they have a dog they got as a stray and aren’t taking it with them. She is not a puppy, but she’s not an older dog either. She’s a small dog too and hopefully I’ll have a camera soon to show you a photo. Very happy about FRED.
It was fun the way you girls did that all about him. Of course, it’s fun how you all do a lot of things on your blog. LOL
LOVE AND MISS YOU!
I can’t wait to see a picture of your dog, too! I’ve been thinking about you and miss you! One of these days I will have an e-mail or letter or something for you!!!
Love and hugs!!!
Jessica
