In less than a week, our whole family is going to travel back in time to about 4 or 5 B.C. to the little village of Bethlehem. Most of us will be in the marketplace, selling grain or produce to the families who are on their way to pay their taxes. We’ll barter with them and try to make enough money to pay our own taxes. Mommy and I will be guides for the families going through.
For about 14 years, we’ve gone to the ‘Holy Walk’ (a walk-through Bethlehem story) almost every Christmas season and we love it! This year is our first time being in it as volunteers and we are pretty excited 😀
Last night we went to the training meeting and got to pick out our costumes…
Even Daddy and the boys are in on it 😀
Of course last night we had to try our costumes on…and take pictures!
I asked Noah, “Are you excited for the Holy Walk?” and he said, “Yes! At first I was like, ‘these clothes are weird!’ but then I was like, ‘this is MUCH more better!'” 😀 I think he meant once Leah put on his belt and hat, (and all of us girls made over how cute it was) he liked it better than just the baggy robe. We’re going to be outside doing this, so the robes have to have plenty of room to wear a coat and multiple layers underneath.
Isaiah told me: ” I can’t wait for the Holy Walk! At first I was like, ‘I don’t want to wear these’ (the costumes), but then I tried it on and I was like, ‘this is much more better! And I think Bekah and Charissa are going to be doing the pruduce (produce), so they will fill up their baskets with fruit and I can eat some!”
I was wondering how the boys would like their costumes, so I’m glad it didn’t take long for them to think it was ‘much more better’ than they thought 😀 Aren’t they cute little guys?!
At the Holy Walk, you are assigned a family guide and you walk through Bethlehem on your way to pay your taxes. On the way, you see Mary and Joseph, shepherds, fishermen, and you visit the marketplace where you barter for food and bedding. And the Roman soldiers are everywhere, shouting at you to get out of the way and occasionally putting you in jail or in the stocks 😀 At the end you pay your taxes and then you see the baby Jesus in a manger. It is so much fun…if you want to come, or just want to see pictures from previous years, click :here:

And the family picture 😀 We put the camera on a timer so we could all be in the picture, but it took 3 tries before we were able to get a picture where everyone was smiling somewhat 😀 You can tell that Noah and Isaiah are a little tired of smiling 😀

You all look great! Have fun!
How fun! You guys are so creative.
Aww! You all look wonderful! I wish we had something like that in our city. When I was a little girl I used to dress up like a “Bible person” and had a lot of fun. It would be nice to do that again as a grown up. 😀
We used to do the same thing, Heather! Mommy made us outfits and we had so much fun being ‘Bible people’ 😀
That is sooo cool! Do they have these across the country or is it just a local event? I have never heard of ‘Holy Walk’ before, but it sounds like it would be so much fun!!! Did you make any of the costumes, or did they provide them for you?
Karen
It’s just a local event, but we’ve heard that a few churches across the U.S. have asked Bremen how they are doing it, and a church from Mexico came up to see how they did it because they wanted to do it, too 🙂 I guess that there have been people from other countries come, and if I understood correctly, one man comes down from Canada every year to visit!!! They provided the costumes…they have this whole organized closet with costumes for angels, shepherds, villagers, soldiers, everybody! It’s amazing 😀
that sounds fun! I love acting and stuff and that would be great! We once went to a Passion walk were you walked along outside to different scenes and actors acted out (Jesus’ birth, ministry, death, resurrection, etc.) and “Jesus” preached at the end. Little different than what you’re going to but I thibk that is so nice! It would almost be fun to be put in socks. (just at that thing!)
Wow! That would be really neat to see something like a Passion walk! Lol! Yes, the soldiers find crazy reasons to put you in the stocks, or in jail…they need a cook, you laughed at them, you don’t know how many people are in your family… 😀
Fun!!!
Looks good! Maybe next year if I have my licence I can do it too ( getting there is always a problem isn’t it 🙂 ). Don’t forget we have dibs on you Jessica!
LOL Hope! 😀 I can’t control that, but hopefully you’ll get to be in my ‘family’! 😀
Ya ‘Mother’.:D 😀
LOL! 😀
Looks like alot of fun! 🙂
We have one of those around where we live, but we call it a Journey to Bethlehem. People set up in tents as basket-weavers, farmers, ect. and characters from Jesus’ life. And they make a road around all this and have cars drive through it. It’s all really fun!!
those costumes look great! I wish we had something like that in Australia! 🙂

Jessica did a really good job as a guide.
You all look very nice!
Thank you, Sarah 😀 We had lots of fun, too! There’s a post coming about it 😀 😀 😀
