Back in March, I (Cassia) was becoming increasingly frustrated with my eyes being tired. They got tired when I would be driving, tired when I’m reading music, on the computer, and reading a book, it was frustrating and making my attention span short. ๐
I finally decided I should make an appointment with the eye doctor, and after going I was not happy with the results: Bifocals, and all the timers! ๐ (The eye doctor did explain though that I needed bifocals because of the combination I needed for far and near, notย ย because my eyes have trouble adjusting, which I was happy to hear. ๐ )
I was pretty upset, getting glasses meant I would look different from all the rest of my siblings. ย But after much thought, advice from wise people (aka Daddy and Mommy ๐ ), and prayer, I decided this is what I needed to do. It was either have tired eyes, short attention span all the time, and being frustrated, or having better vision, bigger attention span, and not being so frustrated. ย The choice was pretty obvious! ๐
Of course I could have gotten contacts, but no thank you!!! I don’t want one more thing to tie me up in the morning, spending extra time trying to get contacts in my eyes. I like how I can just put on my glasses and go. ๐
Taking two of my fashion experts (Leah and Susannah), with me, I went to pick out frames and to order them…less then a week later they came in and I’ve been wearing them since.
Having them now for about two months, it is nice the difference that they make, ๐ and I don’t mind so much anymore that I’m the only one of us siblings wearing glasses…or am I?
The next week I (Susannah) made an eye appointment. ย I have been meaning to make an appointment since November, but kept putting it off. Cause, well, I canย see! ย I have had headaches often for a long time especially after concentrating on various things such as needle craft, reading, driving, playing cello/piano, etc . Maybe eye related? But maybe not. So I thought I’d go to the eye doctor to rule that out ย (ha ha). ย I found out that I also needed glasses. ย Less headaches have been worth it! ย Way worth it! ย It’s amazing that I only have about one headache a week now! ย And….surprise surprise….things are clearer! ๐
Contacts were also a no no for me. I mean, I can barely get eye drops in my eyes! How in the world am I going to get a contact in?! ย Last year when Daddy tried contacts, he let us play with one he was going to throw away. We tried and tried to get it in our eyes, but it was impossible! ๐
ย I’ve adjusted to the glasses much faster than I thought I would. ย One thing I am still trying to remember is that I can’t just reach up and rub my eyes/forehead. Something is in the way ๐
The most two annoying things about them are they get dirty so fast! And the glare. ย I guess I’ll get used to that ๐
So now…we match! ๐

Such sweet pictures. ๐
No his permit ๐
Hey girls, those look great! Almost all my siblings wear glasses. And we found a really nice place to get glasses. (Your Dr will hate this!) But we get ours at – Zennioptical.com –
They have really good quality glasses, at a fraction of the price you pay in the Dr office. We have been very pleased!
BTW I wore glasses for a while, and used my money to get hard contacts. They are not that bad at all! (And I hardly get headaches anymore! Just something to consider.)
Good choices, they look great on you ladies! ~Krista
Wow, we’ll have to check it out, thanks for sharing, Krista! ๐ ~Cassia
You look beautiful girls:) Isn’t God so gracious & merciful to give you the commonality of having to share the season of getting eye glasses together?
Cathy, yes He is!!! ๐ ๐ ๐ ~Cassia
Looks great Cassia and Susannah; they suit you! Pretty photos, too!
I love that you ladies are back! You both look lovely– so much happiness and contentment in your home!
Ya’ll look so pretty in them! ๐ (plus, I love the background! Beautiful photos!)
I think they look very lovely on both of you!
You both look lovely and I love the yellow bush/tree in the background, it makes for a gorgeous photo. I learned that I needed glasses when I was 9, but was not able to get them until I was 14 – that was through the generosity of the Lions Foundation in Arizona. I’m now 50. I tried contacts for about six months but then I got pregnant with my first child and my eyes would get too dried out to use contacts. I like glasses better anyway. And like another of your commenters mentioned, Zenni Optical is a great place to get glasses. I personally don’t like the idea of getting my original/main pair there but it’s great to get a spare pair for under $20! I have one ear closer to my face than the other by just a fraction so I have to stick with frames that are metal so that they are easily adjustable when I go through ZO. All you need is to get a copy of the prescription (it’s not one for Zenni but you just need the information from it) and you can order as many pairs as needed for only $4.95 shipping. I was the first of my siblings to wear glasses and it was like this weird thing that no one wanted to be like me and have to wear glasses so my siblings put off getting their eyes checked for years and years until it got to the point where they realized they really did like to be like Starlene. ๐ Y’all should get exams for the rest of the siblings, since needing glasses tends to run in families. I like Costco for my exams, they are reasonably priced and then I usually order one pair of progressives (I started to need the bifocals about 10 years ago) and then use my prescription to order a spare pair of single vision from Zenni. It’s weird having single vision glasses having gotten adjusted to progressives. Also here in Arizona at the main Lions Foundation they offer exam and glasses (single vision or bifocal plus frames – and they have really pretty frames!) for under $80.
Glasses, who’d a thunk it? I always thought I’d need glasses, but hey maybe I will! But seriously I don’t want glasses. You guys look beautiful!

You girls look lovely! Very much enjoyed the wonderful photos also. I’ve been wearing glasses since age 9 and I’m now.. uh..decades past age 9, ๐ Been wearing progressives for over 10 years also. It feels really odd to me when I don’t have glasses on. I too can recommend Zenni Optical for frames and lenses at a greatly reduced price over what you pay elsewhere. ~ Have a blessed week!
I think you look beautiful! And it is about time you joined the club! ๐ Have a great day!
Hey girls! I’ve been reading your blog for a while and y’all seem so sweet! I was horrified to read though that you all tried your dad’s used contacts. That’s a great way to get an eye infection, abrasions in your eye or discover an allergy. I’m sure you wouldn’t take any medication prescribed to someone else, and contacts are the same thing. Please be careful!
Don’t worry, it was a one time thing, but thanks for the advice…we’ll be more careful from now on ๐
I was wondering about that too.
Such pretty pictures! Nice glasses!
It’s funny. After I read this post, I went back and looked at the pictures of previous posts, and what do you know, you were wearing glasses! I never noticed until you told us about them.
I believe that is one reason why God gives us siblings: to be an encouragement and blessing. I know mine certainly are to me.
You both look absolutely beautiful in your glasses. Love the jumpers and blouses too.
About contacts…they do seem tricky to use at first, but after a little practice they are easy to get in and out. I would never recommend contacts as an alternative for glasses, but at times they are good to have at hand. For example: in pouring rain, or freezing cold when glasses get foggy easily. Or if I want to use binoculars (I love birdwatching), or 3-D glasses in a movie theater. Since I use contacts rather infrequently, mine are disposable type. It’s no use to buy monthly lenses if you would use them just a couple of times in said month (for hygienic reasons, it’s a bad idea to keep them for much longer). A pack of one day lenses lasts for a long time and is the most hygienical choice if you only need contacts every now and then.
But it’s definitely easier to get started with glasses. ๐ You both look very pretty in yours!
You young ladies look very nice in your glasses! I too recently found out I had to wear glasses, and funny thing is, is that my brother also had to wear glasses as well. But we found out in January. ~ Sarah
