Okay, ham didn’t rain down on us like quail did on the Israelites, but it was neat how God orchestrated giving us a Christmas ham, and we wanted to share the story with you 😉
About a week before Christmas, we did our biweekly grocery shopping trip. Â This time we planned our Christmas dinner, since it fell within the next two weeks. Â We made up our menu, wrote out ingredients, and then added them to the list. Â I wrote ‘ham’ on the list, since that is what we like to get for our main meat for Christmas dinner.
Then we got to the grocery store and I noticed someone had crossed it out. Â I thought maybe Susannah knew we were going to get ham from one of the local farmers and so I didn’t think much about it.
The next day Daddy called from work and said that our cousin had called him and asked  if we could use a ham.  Someone had given him a big one and he said it would take him and his son way too long to eat all of it 😀  Daddy told him we could definitely use it and called me to let me know that our cousin was going to be dropping it off.
A little while later, our cousin dropped off the ham…and he was right about it being big. Â Later we weighed it and found out it was 20 lbs.!!! Â Bekah had to move it in the fridge to get something out and she exclaimed, “That ham is ridiculously heavy! Â It must have been a fat pig!”
Later I commented to Susannah that I was glad she had crossed ham off of the list– then I was surprised when she said, “What? Â I didn’t cross it off!”
We don’t know who crossed it off, but we sure are glad that someone did, because God provided us with a free ham the next day 😀  And God gives big hams!  You always read stories about how God provided a family with a Christmas ham or turkey, but it was neat to see Him providing for us firsthand.  Though we technically could have bought a ham, it was like a ‘hug’ and a reminder from God that He is able to provide 😀
nope, that picture isn’t of our ham…we didn’t make ours look quite that pretty!

I love that story! isn’t God amazing! I bet it tasted really good :)..

Yes, He is! (and it did taste really good 😀 )
WOW! What an awesome testimony 😀 We took our left over christmas ham and put in ham and potato soup! YUM 😀
Yum! We have a huge ham bone now that is ready to go into some kind of soup 😀
That is a nice story, but seeing as you could have ‘technically’ have bought a ham, why didn’t you donate the ham to a family who couldn’t afford to ‘technically’ buy a ham, then just buy your own as usual? When a gift like that lands in my hands, I ask myself, should this go to someone who could really need it?
Hello Sola! That’s a very good point 😉 I think there are times that He gives us gifts to give away (like in Lina’s case…they felt God was leading them to give it away) and other times He meant it for us. There is no doubt in my mind that He meant this one for us 🙂 Perhaps He will give us another someday to give away, but this one was an encouragement to us 😉 I don’t know…does that make sense?! 🙂 We could technically afford it, but it surely helped stretch our stretched grocery budget (as I’m sure you can imagine a family of eleven’s would be! 😀 )
Thanks for commenting! Hope you have a wonderful new year!

We received a free turkey from some family friends. Since we could afford a turkey we prayed and felt G-d was testing us. After some more prayer and family discussion we made a decision. We were able to bless a local soup kitchen with our gift turkey. We are most grateful for G-d using us as his instrument of charity and good will.
Thanks for sharing your story, Lina! It is neat to see how God uses us to give to others 🙂
That ham sure looks yummy. Would you consider donating a ham to a soup kitchen or homeless shelter? A lot of people can’t afford to buy even one ham at Christmas, which I think is sad :(. Best wishes for your new year!
Yes, we would probably consider doing something like that 🙂 I agree about it being sad that others don’t have the kind of Christmases we are used to…our 4H club has ‘adopted a family’ and showered them with food and gifts before, and that was a lot of fun to participate in 🙂
Hope you have a happy new year as well, Nora! Thanks for commenting 🙂

Hi Sisters,
Yes I can see your point about feeling that God wanted you to have it, but I wonder about making a donation in its place as a way of saying thank you. Perhaps the next time you go grocery shopping you could buy an item and donate it to a shelter or perhaps to a single parent family you know as a way of expressing your gratitude for what God provided for you.
Have a great new year.
Yes, that’s a good idea 😉
