Yesterday and today are the wrapping up of the fair for us 4Hers. The rides and the food will be there until Sunday, but all the projects are going home tonight, and all the animals have been cleared out…the whole 4H end is almost a ghost town. It is hard to believe that it is all over already. Kind of a relief, but also kind of sad!
We went to the fair yesterday for the auction. Each 4Her is allowed to sell 2 animals (or animal products, such as a basket of goat milk products) and the local businesses will ‘buy’ the animal. I say ‘buy’ because very rarely does the buyer even want the animal…usually somebody else comes in and buys them at market price, while the other buyer is giving the 4Her much more money than their animal is worth 🙂 It is mainly to encourage the 4Hers. One girl’s chicken sold for $4,000 😯 but her family’s barn burnt this year, so it was a way to encourage and help the family 🙂 The chickens usually go for *only* about a hundred dollars 😀

Cassia with her milk bucket…three girls used “Big R” buckets, a farm store near us, and Big R was so kind as to buy two of them 😀 Daddy was teasing us and said that they just wanted their buckets back!
We had the opportunity to sing the Star Spangled Banner for the start of the Sale of Champions that evening 😀 We were a little nervous, but it was SO much fun!

Today we went down to “Old Days, Old Ways” and took a picture of this cabin. It is an original cabin that they moved here. A family with 7 children lived in it at one time.

This afternoon we got done butchering 51 chickens 😛 😀 It was fun to have our old ‘chicken butchering buddies’, Mr. and Mrs. B, with us again this time 😀 Mr. B looks very serious in the pictures we posted the other day, but he is anything but serious…he is always making chicken jokes when we are working on the chickens 😀 We will spare you pictures of that whole process this time 😉
Tonight we’re going to go hear an orchestra play, so I’d better go and eat my supper (no, it’s not chicken tonight!)
Oh!! I LOVED that video!! I wish I was there, I’d be screaming!!! You girls did SUCH a great job!! Can’t you make sme more videos of you singing at home and post them? I LOVE videos! Do you girls know “Mansion Over the Hilltop?” That’s one of my favorites. 🙂
