Ever feel like you’re being followed? Or watched?! π
Last fall on our East Trip, we went to Niagara Falls. Someone followed us and took our picture and then posted it on Flickr π

The picture was titled:

Haha! That’s funny….people think we’re amish because we wear skirts.
that is just too funny π We get mistakened for Amish and Mennonites also !! I think when they see a long skirt/dress and a covering, they up that and that together and think you’re Amish!! They are totally wrong! We don’t look a THING like Amish :p BTW how did you find this picture?
You know, one time I was in Walmart someone came up to me and asked if I was a NUN!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAA !!!!!! YOU MEAN i LOOK LIKE A NUN!! A NUN?! {{{Clutches head}}}
Whatever.
Oh yes.
Another time we were taking a trip out West and we were staying at a hotel for the night. As we were walking in the doors, this little elderly colored man came running up to us, all excited. He blurted out, “Are you all ‘A’mish??” (he pronunced the A said he alpabet way) We kindly told him, no, we are not ‘A’mish. You should have seen his face. He looked so disapointed.
Anyway, Have fun being Amish!!
Wow! That is a little disconcerting finding a picture of yourself on a stranger’s Flickr site. Glad you’re taking it in stride though. How did you find it? (And there is no way any Amish family would be wearing a print skirt like that!)
One of our blog readers saw it and told us about it π
Yeah, the red jacket is a non-Amish item, too! π
Rachel, don’t feel badly, we’ve been called nuns a time or two as well as pilgrims!
Last week while camping, the girls heard a little girl call them “the princesses”! And I had a little girl come up to me and ask, “Why are you a princess?” I wish I had been on my toes and said,
“Because I’m a daughter of the King!” π
It’s fun!
~Trisch/Mama of the Seven Sisters (who didn’t want to take the time to logout–the girls are *always* logged in! LOL!)
no, i don’t feel bad π it’s just funny π
He, he!
LOL!!! My mom and I wear headcoverings when we go out in public, and in Missouri we were walking along the road to a store right next to where my father was getting the van fixed, and the lady at the store said that someone asked if we were Mennonites!! π I was laughing sooo hard at the “nun” comment!!!

Oh my! The Flying Spinster has a mysterious person taking pics of her and her “Amish” Family. If yall are Amish you need to change your name Jessica.. It is against the rules to Fly. We get asked all the time of we are Mennonite or Amish. Also you could get your horse and buggy and skedaddle down here to see your other “A’mish” family:) The funniest thing that I was ever asked was ” Miss are you Amish?” Nope! ” Are you sure!” Uh, yeah! It isn’t help that I was wearing a tiered hot pink skirt with a black thermal. SO not Amish attire. Maybe some day I will learn Pennsylvania Dutch so that I will not only look the part, but I will speak it:) Ya! I wonder if wecan be a spanish speaking Amish people.
Hello-o, my-o, friend-o, how-o are-o you-o doing-o?:) See I speak it perfectly 8D
Say high to your mom for me. Tell her that I finally made a decent loaf a bread that didn’t weigh ten pounds *yes!!!*
Love,
The Spanish-o Amish-o southern-o Spinster
Looks like we have a new spinster!! Welcome to the club, m’dear!! How many is that now, 8 or 9 or 10…… forgot! Toooo many!! π
The Confused and Blank Spinster π
Hehe! Actually, she’s our Well Grounded Spinster with a new, espanol name π
The Flying Spinster
Yes, Kelsye was the second spinster to the club. π
Silly me!! But why are you two speaking up for her? Isn’t she capable enough?!! π Kelsye, m’dear, why didn’t you tell me?! Maybe you were gloating over the fact that I thought we had a new member!! π π
~The Silly and Exasperating Spinster~ π Like my new name, m’dears?!! Lol! π
Oooohhhhhhh!! π
That’s so funny! We have had a similar thing happen to us before – our grandma’s exchange student posted a picture of herself and us on Facebook, and someone commented about us being an Amish family! LOL! Nuns? Well yes, my sisters have gotten that too, but that was partly because a little girl had heard them being called “Sister Eliya and sister Rachel” by another Christan! π I guess we’re not the only “Amish” family around, it sounds like there are a few others out there that have been mistaken for Amish or Mennonite too. I don’t mind it that much though, and it always gives us a good laugh!
Ohhhh How funny! We get called the same thing, but since we used to be Mennonites, it is nothing new. I can se you might have looked more like Mennonites, but AMISH???? I don’t think so! We are very good friends with several Amish families and I certainly could tell you apart! LOL… You all look lovely though.
Vanessa~
How funny!
There was one guy that was convinced we were Amish and argued with us about it. lol
Prayers,
Esther
Hahaha!! He ARGUED with you? You mean he’s telling YOU you’re Amish?!! LOLOL!! What a hooty-hoot!!
That is so hilarious! π LOL!
Jessica
Who, me or the man?!! LOL!! π
The man π
Guess the photographer didn’t know that Amish don’t like to be photographed!
Since we have a Mormon temple near where I live, people think that I look Mormon. (I didn’t know that Mormons “looked” a particular way!)
I don’t know if I can trust you on this one! JP!! π
meaning, you think we’re teasing? π
Ha! I love it…I wear a veil in church and my friend asked me when I put it on, “Why do you look like a nun…?”
Hahaha!! Oh, girls, that is too funny!! Aren’t people ridiculous? π We have never gotten the “Amish” comment, but wearing skirts in public definitly isn’t ‘normal’ to the world…they like to stop and stare!!
Heehee..how weird that your photo was taken! That is not really allowed, it it?? Sue them! Heehee..just kidding. π
~Lucia
Lol! Probably isn’t technically allowed…I don’t know! We got rather used to it when we went on our trip out East though! π
Jessica
Do you mind if I ask what denomination you do follow? I’m just curious.
Your dresses are always lovely- I just made a similar jumper for my granddaughter. π
Oh fun! I’m sure your granddaughter loves it π
In answer to your question, we go to a Baptist church, but no one else there looks exactly like us…in fact each family in our church is pretty different from each other π I’m not sure if we’d say that we ‘follow’ the Baptists, but we do go to a Baptist church (which we love very much! our church family is absolutely wonderful!) Hopefully that answers your question?! π We can be a very confusing bunch…the Mennonites and Amish can’t figure us out, and we confuse other people when we say that we go to a Baptist church π
Thanks for commenting, Jen!
