Some of you girls have wondered about the “Spinster” and “Old Maid” comments floating around and what it’s all about.  With permission from Madison, I am about to tell you the ‘story’ behind it all 😀  Please don’t blame us if your sides ache when you’re done reading–neither Madison or I will accept responsibility for aching sides and consequently,  the inability to get out of bed tomorrow…you’ve been warned!

Although I guess it depends on what sort of a mood you’re in…because you may find it not that funny, but hopefully it will make you smile 😀

Madison and I met through our Etsy shops and somehow she and I got to messaging each other back and forth…she is so fun (as you will soon see!).

It started out somehow about some people (they know who they are 😀 ) thought we were never going to get married because we don’t date, etc, and from there, well, it just got wild 🙂

Neither of us are really ‘proper’ old maids/spinsters.  I don’t know how old you have to be to properly be called either,  but it seems to me you have to be somewhere near a hundred.  If either of us could spin, we could rightfully be called a spinster, as the term comes from ‘way back’ when the oldest daughter did the spinning for the family 😀

Anyhow,  you have here the abriged version…I’ve taken out any uninteresting details.

There weren’t many 😀

“Ohhhhhh, yes.  I’m already getting the ‘do you have your permit yet?’…
Ahhhh, us poor spinsters. Good thing we’re so INDOCTRINATED so that we THINK that we’re content at home, because we’re going to be there forever, scrubbing floors! LOL! 😀
Madison

ROFL! That is hilarious! Yes, it is a *very* good thing that we are so indoctrinated or brainwashed or something!!! Sometimes I think of what Granny said about Ellie Mae on one Beverly Hillbillies show I saw: “She’s almost 18! You don’t want her to be an old maid, do you?!!!” 😀 Like Daddy always says, “It’s better to be married to the right person for 40 years than to the wrong one for 50!”

I think I’ll go scrub floors…

Hee, hee!

Jessica

Well, pick yourself off of the floor, Jessica! You haven’t washed it yet! 😀  You know, I think our families would hit it off really well! 😉 It’s just *TOO BAD* that y’all decided to go east instead of West. Hmph. Well, my old maid friend, I’ve got to go wash my floor and bake some more bread to keep up my reputation! 😀
♥ Madison

LOL! Oh I wish we could meet you all sometime! I quite agree…I love your sense of humor, and if you haven’t figured out from our blog yet, we *love* a good laugh!
Well, if we ever come near Washington, we’ll be sure to tell you, and if you are coming through Indiana, you better be sure to tell us!!! 😀 lol!

Do have fun with the bread and the floor!

Your spinster friend,

Jessica

Oh, stop it! 😀 I can’t laugh any more, and I really DO need to make some bread, though the floor was washed the other day! 😀
Oh, do you like to laugh? I never would have guessed, you stoic spinster, you! 😉 Hee,hee!
And if you think I’m funny, oh, how I wish you could meet my dad!!!!!!!!!
Still rolling on the floor, which is hard to do while making bread, but you MADE me do it!!
♥ Madison ♥

Yes, we staid old maids are quite *ahem* un-staid at times…okay, most of the time!!! You must have gotten your sense of humor from your dad! Daddy is pretty funny, too! He gets us laughing so hard sometimes!

Hmmm…are you rolling the bread out, on the FLOOR?! 😀 Are you rolling out breadsticks? Does it enhance the flavor?! I’m glad you washed the floor the other day! LOL!

Jessica

No, no, no! Have you ever worked out gluten free bread dough? It’s the consistency of thick peanut butter! 😀 It’s all smeared all over, and I’ll never get it off if it’s on the floor…. 😀
I think you can match up to me in making people laugh, Jessica!! I’m going to get a sideache. I left a comment-a rather long one on Anna’s fruitfly post. I’m in a ‘funny’ mood today! 😀
♥Madison ♥  (a note from Jessica…you can see the fruit fly post, complete with crazy comments here 😀

Oh, oh yes! I forgot! I’ve not actually worked with it, but I’ve seen Susannah work with it!!! 😀 You’re going to have to wash the floor all over again with that stuff!

We went right over to see your comment…oh that was HILARIOUS! 😀

Tomorrow, when we wake up with sore sides, we’ll just blame each other!!!

Jessica

“It’s all your fault!” 😀
And I didn’t really get in on the floor, I was just spoofing. 🙂
trying to sit up straight and failing,
♥old maid

LOL! As we tell each other when we’re laughing so hard we can’t breathe, “Breathe, Madison, breathe!!” 😀

I am relieved to hear that you didn’t have the floor to clean up as well as try to get the bread off of the floor!! LOL!

Oh yes! Anna went and fixed up a little swimming pool for the fruit flies and so far only Fred has fallen in, she said 😀 Hazel and whats-her-name must not have been extremely impressed tonight 😀 lol!

Jessica a.k.a.Spinster 😀

BTW, I’m breathing now. 😉
-The brainwashed Old Maid
ps it usually takes awhile for the fruit flies to decide to swim, they are so busy basking in the lovely smell……… 😉

I’m very glad to hear that you’re breathing now 😀 lol! And Anna said to tell you that Hazel and her friend jumped in with Fred not that long ago 😀

Well, this tired spinster had better head to bed…and rest my weary bones (and don’t forget…the SORE muscles!) LOL!

The Indoctrinated Spinster

Good, I’m glad that Fred is not alone- the first time you said “only Fred has fallen in” I forgot that I had named a fruit fly Fred, and I thought you were talking about your dog! 😀 silly me! I was thinking “Well, that must be a really big bowl!…… 😀

-The Old Maid

P.s. you will have to change the fruit fly swimming pool once in a while, because they get a little wary when they see 20 of their friends on the bottom of the pool not moving: “Mildred! Mildred! Speak to me! Come up here, you’ve been down too long!” ;D

ROFL! Your description of the fruit flies made me laugh again!!! “Fred” (the fruit fly, not the dog!) has many friends in fruit fly heaven with him…okay, never mind, there is no such thing!

Okay, I better go for now…I need to do dishes (and scrub floors, being the proper spinster I am! LOL!)

*The Spinster*

And so there you have it…how the Spinster and the Old Maid met, and why they have taken on such names 😀

      Dearest “Texas Family”(wild guess; Ashley??)
No, I never, ever have spit sides. NEVER, I tell you. Only when I laugh too hard. Silly you for thinking a child of my father would ever break a grin. You know us to well, I guess. 😀

For those of you curious about the fruit fly issue………. read the comments on the link.

I never thought you would SPIT sides, M’dear!! So, what you’re saying is, when you laugh too hard, you start spitting sides? Very UNdignified to me, my dear old maid.

Now THAT’S what I call taking lemons and making them into lemonaide –

That’s what I call “skimming the best cream from old age.”
    I think ya’ll have the secret…
I think there is nothing so sweet as the enjoyment we get from baffling the world with our enjoyment of our single years. To God be the glory!!!

you guys are a hoot! 🙂 And does ‘spin’ mean to spin wool or to spin around so your dress flies out? 😀 When I first read, “spin” I thought, “well, I fall into that catogory, because I can spin around!” But then when I read more, my brain has a sprinkle that it might be spinning yarn. But I do know this……….Spinster AND Oldmaid……… YOU ARE NOT OLD MAIDS!!!!!!!!!!! FAAAAAAAARRRRR FROM IT……AMEN. and if you ARE old maids, please send me a copy of your certificate from the goverment saying that you are old maids 🙂

    Letters in the mail, Jessica!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are right, though, Jessica, that if you’re not in the right mood, it’s not funny. I admit, it was funnier the day of (to all of you, this conversation was a one-day event). 😀

ROFL ROFL!!! Sounds like a dog barking, huh? JP! 😀 BTW, I read the “How to kill Mildred and and Fred” recipe! I though it was a most dignified and disgusting way to commit insecticide. JP!! We’ve done the same thing at our house! It works, by the way!

“They’ll fly away, oh Glory, they’ll fly away!! When they die, Halellujah, by and by (bye bye!!! 😀 ) , they’ll fly away!!”

BTW, you want to know how to attach ‘spinster’ to your name? Easy. Just call yourself “The Seven Spinsters!!!” See? Easy as spinning… I mean, pie!! Anyway, I’m back to normal now! I was laughing so hard when I read that story!!! You girls are ……………. I don’t even know!!! Look what you’re doing to me?? You have rendered me “The Speechless Spinster 3!!!” OH!! I keep forgetting to tell you! My friend recently got a ridiculous Bible concordance!! They have (so-called) scriptures referring to computers, credit cards, you name it! We checked the scriptures it had, and they were sooo confusing! Did not say anything at ALL about those words, or something to do with them. (I keep telling her to throw it away. 😀 ) ANYWAY, back to the point, you’ll NEVER guess what word she came across! (Did you guess yet? Figured you would. 🙂 ) “SPINSTER!!!!!!!” The scripture it referred to had something to do with “young maidens!!” Hee, hee! There. Proved it to ya! I agree with Rachel up there! ^ Send me a copy of a certificate! Thanks! I’ll be waiting for it!! Did you mail it yet??? I’ll look for it on Friday! JPJPJP!!!
The Spinster 3 (and, yes, I’m the only child, but I’m still the firstborn of my father! And I too have a funny father like Madison!! When he wants to be, that is!! 😀 )

Haha! 😀 Well, you won’t be getting the copy of my certificate in the mail for at least another 80 years or so, lol! That sounds like a most interesting concordance 😀 We always say that Daniel talks about computers, trains, planes and cars… “But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro , and knowledge shall be increased.” Daniel 12:4 😀

Hannah, the ‘reply’ button had expired on your last comment. In reply to your question, yes, this old maid is proficient in the Oldmaid dialect, and also speaks pig latin. Don’t tell anyone though: I must keep up my reputation as stoic and dignified!
As to my agedness, I am sixteen. 😀
