It is time for our yearly rearranging and redecorating of our rooms 😀  We do this every year at Christmastime…those of us who share rooms shut the door, move the furniture, clean out the junk, and decorate it for Christmas!  When we’re all done we turn on the Christmas lights, light candles, put on some Christmas music and have a “showing” so that everyone else in the family can see what we’ve been doing 😀

Leah and I actually got ours done in record time this year…it only took 2 days!  Leah said that I should cooperate like that more often–she says that I like moving things around too much 😀  Which may be true…but I only move things around once a year, and I like it to be different from last year!

Leah had an amazing good idea to revamp this chair:

   It’s a dirty old thing that Susannah and Cassia rescued from the town dump, but then it sat in our barn and was being used as a step stool to cross a low cement wall in our barn.  Everyone’s dirty mucky boots had been stepping on that seat!

 She had seen a chair almost identical to it on this blog, and thought it would be fun to fix it up, so she brought it into the garage and we washed it down and I unscrewed the seat and began taking off the old cover.

We were happy to find out that the padding was still good…and didn’t smell like barn!  Leah and I decided on some fabric that we liked, and Leah made a beautiful new cover for the chair.  Isn’t it lovely?!  Leah and I think so!

Susannah and Cassia were very curious as to what we were doing, especially since they had finished their room a few days before and they had nothing else to do had more time to speculate 😀  They saw Leah go out to the barn and Susannah said, ” They’re either after our chair, or our wooden chest (another junk pile rescue).”  So they watched the barn (it was dark out), and when they saw the light go off, they quickly shut off their room lights and peeked out the window to see what Leah was bringing out!  The chair itself wasn’t supposed to be a secret, thankfully, or else Leah and I would have had to spank them soundly! JK!

 Another of our favoritest parts of our newly decorated room are the bookshelves.  Both of us love books…and both of us don’t seem to have room for them all.  Before we rearranged, we had the prettier books out on our shelf, and on the top of our desk like this:

 The rest were in a drawer and our closet 🙂  Since we moved the desk, it wasn’t going to work so well to put the books on top as before, so Leah and I went on a secret mission out to the shop to see what we could scare up for bookshelves.  We looked around…looked thoroughly…and it didn’t look like anything was going to work.  But then Leah spotted something way up high on some shelves…these shelves are so high, if I stood on them, it would be like a second story, I think!

What did she see?  Old beehive boxes!  Daddy used to have beehives and there were at least eight boxes up on those shelves.  At first Leah said it jokingly, but then we both kind of liked the idea, so we decided to ask Daddy if we could use them when he and Mommy came home from their date night 😀

 We went up to our room and worked on moving more junk around…then I said, “Let’s call Daddy now!”   Happily, Daddy gave us permission to use them, so after carefully locking the shop door so that none of our sisters would know what we were up to,  I got a ladder and handed 6 of the boxes down to Leah.    We got them all swept out and cleaned up, and then we smuggled them upstairs into our room…Susannah and Cassia were locked away in there room for some reason or another, so I just told them to stay in there until I said they could come out.  They were very obliging 😀

  We stacked up the boxes, and they were perfect!  Leah and I were giddy with excitement–we now had ALL THIS BOOK ROOM!!!  Okay, I was the one giddy with excitement, but I think Leah was pretty close!

Aren’t they lovely?!

 After we had rearranged all the furniture and gotten rid of some junk, it was time to decorate!  We tried to go with a “clean and simple” look without it being too bare.  It was kind of hard to do when we have about 2 to 3 boxes each of knick-knacks or decorations :O  🙂

We moved our desk by the door…the picture is of Leah and I when we were probably about 2 and 4 years old 😀

We’ve never had our bed on this wall before, or our shelves, so I was happy with this change! 😀  And that shelf, by the way, gave us grief!  We were having troubles making it look right, but it came out all right in the end.

{a close up of the shelf}

{don’t know who the cute little people are in this old picture…I just found it at an antique store and liked it!  It has their names written on the back 🙂 }

The vanity stayed where it was last year…but that’s okay, you can’t have change everywhere!

  And so now you know what we’ve been doing while our blog was so quiet 😀  Other than decorating our rooms and the house for Christmas, we’ve been sewing up a storm…

 This has become a joke now–I wrote “Do not knock unless your problem is a BIG one!” because I kept trying to sew and getting interupted for questions like: “I’m hungry, can I have an apple?”  “What can I do?”  “I’m hungry, what can I eat?!” 😀   I guess it’s just getting me ready for being a mother someday 😀

  Now at least my sisters admit that they have big problems, lol! They knock and say, “I have BIG problems!”  or “I have a BIG problem!” 😀  I’m not sure if it’s slowed down on the knocking-for-nothing problem, but I am getting lots of sewing done…I only have 7 projects to finish in 7 days.  I’m down from having 13 projects to do in 9 days.   Much, much better!

I better go sew!

P.S. If you want to see pictures of Mommy taming our jungle, to [here].  Yes, there are jungles in Indiana!   At least that’s what we used to call our big out of season closet 😀

    You did a wonderful job! I am tempted to ask, with Miss Croswhite, Will you come do mine too?? Yesterday I spent the day redoing an old, but lovely desk my mom got for me. It’s looking well now, but the rest of my room is a horror. I like the looks of yours much better 🙂 The chair is fabulous – excellent job!!

    What an inspiring post! I’m very impressed that you ladies choose the Christmas season to totally clean your room….this is about the time I’m a little overwhelmed with my too ambitious projects and my room tends to get even messier 🙂
