These sewing caddies are what I made six people last year for Christmas….of course I can’t show you what I am making this year. 🙂 So I chose this:
I designed these (since all the patterns I found were not what I wanted) to set under a sewing machine and hang down in front off the table so everything you need for sewing is handy and right there. They are designed to hold tape measures, scissors, needles, thread, marking pencils, and seam rippers–and they are even personalized!!
Several pockets to hold your sewing notions:
The bias-tape gives it a neat and finished look:
You will need:
- 1/2 yard of main fabric
- 15 inches of fleece
- one package of bias-tape and
- a bit of contrasting fabric.
What to do:
Step 1:
Cut two 15″ X 15″ pieces of fabric, plus, one 15″ X 15″ piece of fleece.
Step 2:
Cut one 9″ X 15″ piece of contrasting piece of fabric.
Step 3:
Fold the contrasting piece in half, lengthwise, and baste right sides together on the sides and bottom close to the edge onto one of the 15″ X 15″ pieces (with the fleece piece behind it on the wrong side).
Step 4:
Sew pockets. (Scissor pocket is optional.) I sewed (from left to right) two 3-1/2 inch, one 2 inch, one 1-1/2 inch, one 3/4 inch, one 1-1/4 inch, and one 2-3/4 inch pockets.
Step 5:
Stich the name (of whoever it is going to belong to) 2 inches above the pockets.
Step 6:
Place and pin the back on, wrong sides together. Sew bias-tape on around all edges, making sure you catch in all of the raw edges.
Step 7:
Enjoy it, or wrap it

I knew I wanted to make an organizer, so I googled patterns. While I do quilt, I’ve never sewn anything before. This was my first project. The directions were great and the pictures were very helpful. I finished it today. I learned a lot and was very grateful for a relatively simply pattern.
