A couple of Saturdays ago, I was looking for something to make for us to eat, not a whole meal, not really sugary but not really healthy. 🙂

After searching on the internet I found a recipe for homemade kettle corn. Eh, I guess that’s sugary, but oh well.  🙂

It was really good! And I wanted to share the recipe with you.

( The following recipe and picture I can not get to stay centered, erg.  🙁 sorry!) 

~Homemade Kettle Corn~
2/3 cup raw popcorn
1/4 cup oil
1/4 cup sugar
Place oil and popcorn in pan ( you will also need a lid.)
The popcorn should barely cover the bottom of the pan.
Heat over medium heat until the first kernel starts to pop.
Quickly stir in the sugar until dissolved.
Cover and continuously shake pan while holding top.
Be careful, this will burn much quicker than regular popcorn.
When you think all is popped, remove from heat.
Spoon the popped corn into a bowl while shaking once in a while to let the uncooked kernels settle.
Salt lightly and break up into pieces.


I have had trouble with it burning, the best batch that turned out was done in a heavy stainless steel sauce pan, (like West Bend).  And usually I have alot of unpopped kernels. I may try doing half a batch and see if that works. 🙂 The original recipe says to make it in a skillet, that seems kind of strange, we never pop our corn in a skillet, maybe  it would help with the burning?  I might try it sometime.


If you make this and have better sucess then me, or maybe you all ready have your own recipe, do tell me the secret of not burning it! 🙂

And if any of  you have  a good carmel corn recipe and would like to share it, I would love to have it! 🙂 The same day I made the kettle corn I made carmel corn, it was okay, but  not worth making again.

    Yum!! I LOVE popcorn. Though I am not usually one to eat it sweet, I think this sounds scrumptious…. something I’ll make for my boys. I’ll let you know how it comes out!

    We have made kettle corn in the past for Christmas gifts. Alternating the pot on and off the burner seemed to help with the burning! 🙂
    1/4 cup vegetable oil
    1/4 cup white sugar
    1/2 cup unpopped popcorn kernels

    Oil plus 3 kernels in pot at medium heat. When all three kernels pop add sugar and stir. Then add the rest of the kernels, put lid on. Alternate shaking pot for 3 seconds on the burner then three seconds off the burner. Until your popping begins to slow. Then take off lid, sprinkle with salt. Replace lid then give it another shake. Pour corn into a bowl. Enjoy!

    Here is our recipe for Caramel Corn:

    1 C. Butter
    2 C. Brown Sugar
    1/2 C. Corn Syrup
    1 t. Salt
    1/2 t. Baking Soda
    1 t. Vanilla
    5 qts. popped Popcorn

    Preheat oven to 250*. Place popcorn in large bowl. Melt butter in saucepan, stir in brown sugar, corn syrup and salt. Bringto a boil, stirring constantly. Boil without stirring for 4 min. Remove from heat and stir in soda and vanilla. Pour caramel in thin stream over corn, stirring to coat. Place in two large shallow baking pans, stirring every 15 min. For 1 hour. Remove and cool. Enjoy!

    Also, here is our FAVORITE recipe for Homemade Hot Chocolate!

    Combine in large saucepan, 3 T. baking cocoa, 4T. sugar and 1 1/2 C. dry milk.
    Stir. Add 3 C. water and stir. Heat until warm, then add 1/4 t. vanilla. Makes 6 servings. (We usually have to double this recipe.)

    We LOVE adding Chocolate Mint Truffle coffee creamer to our hot chocolate! Yummy!
