Last night Susannah and Cassia were talking about riding around the country block (which we thought was four miles, but ended up being six). I said, “You girls are crazy!” Then I changed my mind and decided I’d be crazy with them 😀
We don’t do a ton of bike riding, and when we do, it’s only a 1/2 mile at a time down the field lane. It ended up being SO much fun! All seven of us girls went in the evening after the goats were milked and the dishes were done. It was quite comical to see a message get relayed down the line (I was in the back). Susannah was in the front and she would holler ‘Car!’, and each girl would holler back to the next girl, “Car! Car! Car!”. Or Susannah would point at a apple tree we were passing, so just to be funny, each of the girls would also point at it. It looked like follow the leader 😀
The weather recently just turned cool…so cool it feels like autumn. And the sky was absolutely beautiful last night. Then the corn and bean fields looked so pretty and so green…it all made for a really, really pretty ride.
We wanted a picture of all of us together, and taking one of all of us with a little phone camera, without cutting off people’s heads is a challenge. This was our first attempt…in which we failed 😛
A little better…but all we can see of Bekah is her ‘thumbs up’ 😀
Finally…everyone is in the picture!
We made up some more of our ‘Amish jokes’ that we like to tell, where we make up the conversations people are having about ‘those Amish girls’ 😀 (Note: we are not making fun of the Amish…we like the Amish. We are making fun of… ourselves :D)
Every house where there was a dog, the dogs barked (and sometimes chased us), announcing that we were passing by. We were passing one such house and the owner was so nice as to hold his dogs back. We had just passed his house and noticed that his neighbor was selling a car. Susannah has been looking to buy one, so we all stopped and gathered around it and took down the information we wanted.
“Honey, did you see all those Amish girls gathered around that car?! I thought Amish didn’t drive!”
About 3/4 in to our ride we stopped (again) for a water break, and we were tired. We joked about cutting through people’s yards in town to ‘save time’.
Susannah said, “You know how the cars sneak around and lift up their tires in the movie Cars? We could sneak through like that with our bikes!”
Then came another ‘Amish joke’.
“Martha! I just saw seven Amish girls creeping through our backyard!”
“Oh Fred, don’t be ridiculous! You must be too tired! You should just go to bed!”
Did I mention that it was a really pretty ride?! It was one of those really fun ‘sister times’…it made me smile several times to see us all together and made me thankful that we can be together and thankful that we like each other (most of the time 😀 ). It was one of those times that make you so happy to be alive 😉
This is a very blurry picture because
1) it was dark, and
2) I was using my phone camera, which
3) isn’t very high quality, and
4) I was riding my bike 😀
But we were good and rode on the streets and did not creep through people’s backyards 😀
Earlier yesterday I took the boys on a little ride into the gas station to get ice cream bars and then to the park to eat them.
Poor Isaiah dropped his snow cone several times, so we brushed off the dirt until it was edible again 😀 He only had a little bit left when he decided he was finished, so he threw it in the water and giggled as he watched it melt and float downstream 🙂
They had a lot of fun finding ‘skipping rocks’ and trying to skip them.
The bridge 🙂 My phone camera doesn’t do it justice! It was so pretty there!
We also picked blueberries yesterday…but that’s another whole post 🙂
Yesterday was a very good day 😉
